Josh turned 31! He is once again finally the same age as me (I am 9 month older than him). He worked today so the kids and I ran around wrapping presents, cleaning house, vacuuming, making a cake and cupcakes...phew, I am tired just thinking about all we did. Overall, it was a lot of fun.
I decided I would be adventuresome and make a cake myself. Now for most people this does not sound too challenging, but for me it is a MAJOR challenge. To give you an idea of this, here is a picture of the first cake I ever made:

Yes, I realize it is the most hideous cake you have ever seen |

Look at how young the girls are. |
This year I decided to let the kids help me make it. Hey, maybe they have the bakers touch. :) We started out before nap time with all three kids. That lasted about 5 minutes before Caleb was promptly put down for nap time after he threw 2 eggs so they broke all over all table and floor and then decided they make great finger paint. Yep, definitely nap time. We realized half way through that we didn't have a cake pan so instead we opted for a 9 inch round pan and cupcakes. We threw in the oven and crossed our fingers.
They actually came out looking quite good. Good start! While they cooled, I went and changed the laundry while the girls had quiet time in their room. I came back up to the kitchen only to find the girls had decided to skip quiet time and instead have a bit of cake early. GRRR....

Yep, they definitely took a chunk out of the cake. |
It took a bit of adjusting and rearranging cake, but we made it work. There was a cake that we saw on pinterest that totally fit Josh's love, golf. Since the girls started the hole anyways, we went with it and made a golf cake. The girls made the 19th hole sign and colored it and we were good to go! We added a bit of green food coloring to white frosting and used a fork to make grass. We put a golf ball in the hole and it was a golf green! It actually turned out pretty cute. :)

Not too shabby! |

I love how you can see Caleb's face peeking from the background. :) |
Lois came over and joined us for pizza and then it was time to test out the cake. I am happy to say that the cake even tasted pretty good. While the girls
sang happy birthday, Caleb spent the whole time trying to blow out the
candles before we finished the song.
 |
Clearly we need some work on our 'cheeses' |
 |
Caleb really wanted to blow out those candles. |

Blow those candles out! |
Since Josh's present was really our trip to the Lion's game, he only received two small presents to open on his actual birthday: a shirt, and a bag filled with Doritos and Mountain Dew. :) He seemed to like it.

Caleb says, 'num" |

Clearly the girls are enjoying it too. |

Opening his new shirt. |

Clearly he loves posing for pictures ;) |

Much better! :) |
It was a great birthday overall. Josh is another year old (and hopefully another year wiser), the cakes are getting better, and we had a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends. :)
