Neighborhood houses falling down

After getting home from BSF, I put Caleb immediately down for his nap and started getting the girls ready for nap time shortly after that. Grace kept insisting she was hearing the garbage truck down the road. I kept dismissing it since our garbage is picked up on Mondays and the sound was coming from the back yard, not the front. Finally I took a glance out the window and was quite shocked to see a heavy duty piece of equipment ripping into the house directly behind ours. Crazy! Who expects to look out their window and see a house being torn down? Grace was with me and watched with wide eyed disbelief. She was in quite the tizzy yelling, "mommy, the monster claw is going to come get our home!"  I explained that the house they were tearing down was old, yucky, and no one lived there. Our home is nice, pretty, and we live here so we will be okay. She finally went to my room to take a nap and seemed to have calmed down. Just kidding! Five minutes later I hear her yelling out the bedroom window at the 'monster', "Don't get our home. That home is old and yucky. Our home is nice and pretty. Leave our home alone. etc" Oh dear. I finally decided nap time was a hopeless pursuit and so we cuddled instead. Below is the video of the house being torn down and another video of Grace right after she had her ' talk with the big machine' out the window. I can't blame her though. How freaky would it be for a 3 year old to see a house torn down right behind their own home. A house is a source of structure, stability, and safety for a child. Instead she is witnessing a house being torn down in the matter of an hour. I'd be freaked out too! I am actually somewhat glad that the house is gone. It was becoming an eyesore and had been foreclosed upon a year ago.

Our back yard before the house is torn down.

The kids spent the whole afternoon watching the destruction.

Caleb loved the big equipment.

Hmmm.... how do I turn up the volume on this show?

  1. The video won't play! :( I was looking forward to hearing Grace's reaction to the house being torn down. Do you think you will move after the break-in and a house being torn down?
