Too much body!

Josh gets the ESPN magazine delivered each month. He loves reading about sports, watching sports, playing sports, Fantasy Football, and pretty much anything dealing with sports. I will admit when I am REALLY bored, I will even read the ESPN magazine too. Most issues have some kind of theme and have a bunch of articles related to it. Last month it was about Boston sports teams. All fine and good.

However, this month's topic was introduced to me as my daughter came to me and asked, "Mommy, why are all these people naked?" Confused, I grabbed the magazine from her only to see naked bodies everywhere, just as she said. Yeah, I love explaining why there are naked people all over a magazine. :(   ESPN, unknown to me, publishes a "Body Issue". Basically one picture after another of naked athletes posing with their athletic equipment. Really?! Is that really necessary? Is this not a magazine that is supposed to be about sports?
I originally threw it away... but after feeling bad Josh won't be able to read any articles, I instead retrieved it from the garbage and ended up cutting out over half the magazine (really, no exaggeration the magazine was over half full of pics of naked athletes).

It disturbs me that what is basically soft porn is coming into my house in the form of a magazine that is supposed to be about sports.  I don't need my son exposed to soft porn this young and to have my husband see a bunch of naked  perfectly touched up women (his eyes are for me alone!). I don't want my girls seeing women portrayed in that way.  I am trying to teach them modesty, self-respect, dignity, to see themselves as beautiful just the way God made them-- not that they need to sell sex, flaunt their bodies, and live up to a touched up athletes 'perfect' body.  Geez, I already have to worry about what is on TV; now this too!? So needless to say, if I get my way tonight (probably should talk to Josh about it first ;), we will be canceling ESPN magazine. I don't need that in my house for my kids and husband to see. RIDICULOUS!
